Sheet Music
Here you can find sheet music with Swedish folk tunes,
mainly from the project BODATOGET, the BODA TRAIN,
which we accomplished six times.
I have written the melodies down from 2 CD´s with Boda Spelmanslag;
"Låtar på Bodamål" and "Boda Spelmanslag 50 år".
Written music can never describe folk music fully. You need a knowledge of the style to read the music into the dots.
When it comes to Bodapolska, one of the main traits is that the second beat comes a bit early, you experience a kind of lift (not like a helicopter, more like a Boeing 737), and you stay hanging in the air a bit longer before the third beat.
The bowings are written after what I have heard and seen, listening to Boda Spelmanslag, Röjås Jonas, Hans Röjås, Knapp Brita, Jon Holmén m.fl., and tried out myself.
It´s not the truth, but a common praxis for Boda bowings, with small variations. My experience is that when you connect the bowings with the musical feeling you can easier get the character and you´re playing more together.
I have tried to show, which notes are embellishment, and keen be skipped without losing the melody. I tried to make the phrasing visual. But as always, the most important is to listen a lot to good fiddlers.
Bodapolska
Here are some Bodapolska tunes for you to print.
Watch the little VIDEO made by Kurt Nielsen from the first dance playing with our project, the BODATRAIN in march 2011 (Kbh Folkemusikhus, Valhalsgade):
"Bidt af Boda"
Video on the track is from the third time we played (Frøbel seminar 22/2 2013). Kurt has written the names of the tunes, so you can listen as you read.
We played for dance evenings 6 times, some of the same people, some were new.
Erik Enevoldsen from Næstved has kindly helped me to write many of my handwritten polkas in Sibelius. We hope they can be useful.

Tunes from Skåne
Here are some tunes we learnt from the fiddler Karin Wallin,
Helsingborg, at a workshop in Copenhagen 30/4 2011. Her father did some very important and respected research of the folk dance tradition of Skåne (southern Sweden), and she has received the Zorn gold medal for her exceptional drive and energy in her solo playing for dancing, which she has developed through many years, starting with playing solo for her father´s dance courses.
- "When you have played for hours and the brain is switched off, then it´s beginning to get good".
Karin´s teaching style is down to earth, by ear (no written music), and with a strong presence and a good sense of humor.
She often plays with the G-string tuned to an A and uses open strings as much as possible. She doesn't care too much about the exact bowings, but I have written down what I saw and heard. Puls, energy, soft changes of bow.
